* S O U N D T R E K K E R ' S B L U R B * ***************************************************** As announced, here is my version of Star Trek's "That Which Survives", the tv rip from the remastered episode shown on CBS last month. It is somewhat better in quality than the version uploaded last week here on thepiratebay. It's your choice! ******************************* THE ENHANCEMENTS A new version of the barren planet, this time without the green-blueish colors as in the original, but only brownish, and a handful of short, but beautiful staged Enterprise shots. ASSORTED COMMENTS The script was written by trek veteran writer/producer John Meredyth Lucas, and the story was provided by Michael Richards - which is, as you may or may not know, non other than D.C. Fontana herself! Yes, she used this pseudonym for her story for unknown reasons. Okay, it's not one of her best stories, and yes, she can do better, but the story is nevertheless imaginative and contains many sensitive moments, action, mystery, and suspense. An example for sensitive writing is the fact that the behavior of Losira's image, who is killing people, nevertheless indicates that the real Losira, who apparently programmed the computer, transferred some of her respect for life into the device. There is no feeling of malevolence in the hologram's actions; it appears to be doing its duty with reluctance. The funeral of Lt. D'Amato provided also a sensitive moment, as the body of the geologist is ceremonially covered with the same varieties of alien rocks that had intrigued him just a short time before. Lee Meriwether, a former Miss America, who plays Losira, appeared in many movies and tv shows during the 60ies and 70ies, including Irwin Allen's "The Time Tunnel" (as Ann the technician). Other appearances were in episodes of "Land of the Giants" ("Rescue") and the 1966 movie version of "Batman", where she played Catwoman (a role later played by Julie Newmar in the tv version). In Fontana's story outline for this episode, entitled "Survival", the image of Losira was more brutal than in the final version and also manufactured illusions that caused the Enterprise people to fight among themselves. Chekov perceived McCoy as a monster, whereas Sulu saw a fellow crewman as a monster and Uhura thought she saw Sulu attack another crewman. Kirk was almost induced to stab himself while in his quarters. ******************************* Okay, then, that's all for today, except to remind you to keep seeding after download, or I'm going to send some holographic beautiful lady to you who will greet you with "I'm for you!" :-( *************************************************** Next week: First, two of the "March" episodes, and then next week's new CBS broadcast: - "Is There In Truth No Beauty?" (new and better version of last month's episode) - "Elaan of Troyius" (new and better version of last month's episode) - "The Enterprise Incident" (new on CBS next week) All right, people, take care, and LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!!!
