Tom Courtenay plays Stan Laurel in this deeply touching, award winning radio drama, later adapted for TV.

It is 1957. Stan's long time comedy partner Oliver Hardy is dying. He has been left mute after a stroke and Stan has been sent for by "Babe's" wife to say farewell. Stan talks of their life together, remembering good times such as their visit to Ireland in the early 1950s, and tells Olly of Stan's new comedy ideas - which he knows can never be. (Stan was famously the creative brains behind the duo.) Olly finds his voice at the end of the play for one last time.

This clearly deserved its Sony Radio Award.
