Este jogo conta a história de Maxwell, um menino, o qual tinha um caderno mágico. Que tipo de caderno mágico? Aquele que tudo que ele escrevesse se tornaria realidade, então, ele usaria este caderno para ajudar sua querida irmãzinha, que caiu em uma terrível maldição, na onde, ela iria se transformando em pedra de acordo com a passagem do tempo.

Maxwell sai em uma jornada para ajudar sua irmãzinha, fazendo com que cada vez que ele juntasse as estrelas brilhantes, conhecidas como Starites dentro do jogo, ajudaria sua irmã. No momento que Maxwell entrega a primeira Starite para sua irmã, ela o dá um Globo Mágico, se ele o utilizasse ele poderia se teletransportar para o lugar que quisesse, assim juntando mais Starites de acordo com que ajuda as as pessoas.
