Description One of the best low-level hard disk utilities ever made. May be old school, but for those of you whom have used this know how well it works. Buying a new drive? Run this after installation and let it check your new drive for errors before loading your data to it. Factory drives are prone to errors and rely on ECC to maintain them. Fact is that with today's large disks and small sectors it is virtually impossible for ECC and Smart systems to correctly maintain the drive 100% of the time, with many drives shipping with errors on platter from the factory given the tiny data structure we now enjoy. SpinRite fixes this by letting the drives built in correction architecture to realize the faults and begin working around them before it becomes too late. Typically drives will write to bad sectors unknowingly and results could range from blue screens or crash with reboot of the OS. More often than not they are reported as faulty drivers, or code but the real culprit lies in the disk itself. See for yourself what SpinRite does! This utility has been around for two decades and still remains one of the best pre and post recovery and maintenance tools for yesterday's and today's hard disks. Written in assembly language and a mere 170kb's runs from floppy, USB, CD etc. Works on virtually any file systems including all fat32 (fat16 requires older version of program), NTFS, Linux, etc. 32 or 64 Bits, IDE, PATA, SATA, SCSI, USB, Firewire...you name it. Run at level 2 for first time, will thoroughly scan every sector of the drive and test for reliability and if bad sectors are found will relocate to good sectors and notify the drive of such. Personally I have used this for years and seen miracles using it with drives destroyed by either viruses or hardware failure miraculously restored to functionality. Included are pre-configured *.ISO and *.IMG files to burn to any media, as well as the executable which will not run the disk test under windows, but will allow you to burn a working copy of the boot files needed by SpinRite to low-level access your hard disk.
