Synopsis:

Lawrence Wetherhold is miserable and misanthropic: he’s a widower, a pretentious highbrow during Carnegie Mellon, an indifferent father to a college tyro and a high-school senior, and a demure hermit of a ne’er-do-well who’s come to town. A seizure and a tumble send Lawrence to a puncture room where a physician, a former tyro of his, ends adult going on a date with him. His daughter, Vanessa, waste and friendless, who’s been fastening with his brother, tries to harm father and a doctor’s relationship, though Lawrence is good during that but help. Is there any approach these intelligent people can get a life? Can complacency be followed underneath layers of irony?
