Siouxsie And the Banshees - 'Nocturne' (Remastered) (2009)
Cover pic. Live albums are notoriously inessential, castoff affairs, usually. This one is a definite exception to that rule. Nocturne could almost substitute as a Greatest Hits album. The album samples the band's career from their punk roots (The Scream) up to the Dear Prudence single (just before Hyaena). The Banshees are infamous for going through guitarists like water, and the guitarist of the moment happened to be the Cure's Robert Smith, then serving his second tour as a member of the band while his regular band was on hiatus. Smith does just fine as a replacement for the departed John McGeoch, but the 'more permanent' band members are the stars here: Siouxsie, Budgie, and Severin. The rhythm section is very tight and Siouxsie is in great vocal form out front. This album is the sound of a band firing on all four cylinders, and it was recorded beautifully (no overdubs!) at the Royal Albert Hall Track listing: 1. "Israel" - 6:45 2. "Dear Prudence" - 3:55 3.
