OK, here are the problems:

(1) I can't sit in front of the computer for more than a few hours without my vision spazzing out and getting these blinding headaches, so I need some way to contribute that I can do a little bit at a time.

(2) We (the Starhome group) have way too many torrents out there which only include ONE BOOK each. Many of these torrents are very popular, such as "Glory Road" by Robert Heinlein, but it's still a heavy load on our seed boxes to have so many torrents for so few books.

(3) There's a LOT of science-fiction out there on the internet (computer geeks are science-fiction freaks, go figure), but just because someone entered his favorite book into his computer, doesn't mean he knew what he was doing, or that he did it WELL. You'll find a really popular book available in hundreds of places, in dozens of file formats: TXT, RTF, HTM, HTML, XML, LIT, CBR, CBZ, ZIP, ARK, PDF, DOC, etc., etc., etc., but most of the time, you'll discover it's the same old text full of the same old OCR errors, just converted by some program from one format to another.


So what do I intend to do about these problems?

I figure I can collect about 10 books at a time, say 5 we've already released and 5 we haven't, and release them as a set. That replaces five torrents on our servers with one, and gives everyone five new books besides! I think I can do this at least once a month, maybe twice. You can check the Index that Polaris, Vega and I prepare at the beginning of each month to see what books have been released, and what set each book is in. If you have a particular book you'd like to see done, just send me a message via Starhome on KAT.

When I've found a really good EPUB or something with only a few typos in it, I'll use that as the starting point and produce a HTML/CSS file from it. Starting with that I can produce PDF, EPUB, and MOBI. Otherwise I'll scan the printed pages and make CBR, HTML, PDF, EPUB, and MOBI files from that.

I already did a huge torrent for Westerns, and there may be more in the future, since I have a lot of westerns that Gorgon776 never did, i.e., they weren't Ace doubles. If the science-fiction torrents work out, I might start doing mystery, fantasy, horror, alternate history, and other fictional categories. Please let me know what you think of the whole idea; and any suggestions you have would be most welcome.
