Schumann - Sym No 2 - Celibidache & Rome RAI (1960) [Philidor; FLAC]

The Rome RAI was one of the ad hoc pickup ensembles that RAI, the national radio service in Italy, put together for broadcast. (Others were in Milan, and Turin.) Celi in the mid-50s was something of a regular with them, and possibly the only conductor they had out of hundreds of recordings made at the time who could get his orchestras to make an effort. This Schumann 2nd isn't without its flaws, but there's real energy, good balance, and some fine shaping of the music.
