DescriptionSatyricon - Satyricon (2013) INFO: For five years SATYRICON time for a new album have left. Even the cryptic words of the band themselves were many listeners listen up: " We have not yet made no record that captures the spirit of the band so it demands a lot from the listener, but he will love it The plate gets better with every listening time.. and therefore it will last forever. " Strong words. Has not our editorial predecessor "The Age Of Nero" - incidentally quite rightly - referred to as "arrived in mediocrity"? Many disappointed fans saw it as well, but they were used by SATYRICON quality, often groundbreaking albums. In contrast, "The Age Of Nero" seemed merely a pale imitation of "Now, Diabolical" to be. One thing first: "Satyricon" acts on first hearing rather unspectacular. For a second I would have thought the opening track "Voice of Shadows" for a Doom version of "Oh When The Saints Go Marchin 'In." Slowly. Worn. The first in a procession into the innermost sanctuary of "Satyricon". Since the "Volcano" perfected minimalism, the monotony - it's all still there. SATYRICON have taken to extreme change or break in style, it shows immediately. "Tro og force" starts with a sedate reef, from which one might assume that it will not leave a lasting impression. Until a short time the vocals start. Emotional, perfectly interwoven with loose, melancholy guitar lines. What unspectacular at least, if not boring acts at the first Hördurchläufen, unfolds after a few runs its full potential. It reminds me of the feeling by many uncounted glossy Hollywood flicks to watch a silent movie from the twenties. Strange. Reduced. And yet full of beauty and depth when we delve into it. "Satyricon" acts through the throttled speed and production less aggressive than its predecessor. One fears for "Our World, It Rumbles Tonight" almost, that it is now seven songs continues, you will quickly disabused. In "Nocturnal flare" a dominant reef tornado sweeps through the same tidy, partly dreamy song structures, retreats - to paired with the elemental force of satyr voice back. Strong! There is certainly no coincidence that "Phoenix" is right in the middle of the album. How to have "Voice of Shadows" and the closing "Natt" their immovable place, heard "Phoenix" at fifth place. SATYRICON a song, in which only male clean vocals is employed? Of a singer, whose background is in alternative rock? Granted, the voice of Anja Garbarek on "Volcano" I found - just because it is not the usual genre Trällerelsen - very refreshing. But "Phoenix"? Simply awesome. Whether it is because Satyr has the song for Sivert Høyems designed voice, or whether this - he hears privately also black metal - just the perfect symbionts releases for this project. Cleansing Fire, Ashes, Resurrection. Poignant, atmospheric, emotionally. Already quite high in my personal top ten best SATYRICON songs and one of the nastiest ear worms that I had lately. Wow, I would hardly have thought that SATYRICON unpack on the disc once again blast beats! Move It! Maybe that's why I have the feeling that "Phoenix", the disk is divided into two parts. "Upon The Wind Walker" seems the defiant commitment to "Now, Diabolical" to be a reaffirmation of the development of this band. "Upon The Wind Walker" has indeed surprised me, but with a catchy Black 'n roll hits like "Nekrohaven" I have not counted. Fat riff, sing-along chorus and solo Simple: From Hitfaktor dangerously close to "KING", even if the will probably remain forever unmatched. The second half of the album has become surprisingly strong. Okay, I really did not want to discuss in detail each song. So I jump right now to last song. As the opener and "Phoenix" has "Natt" its place. He is very different from the rest of the plate, with quiet folk bonds. One might almost think he was a holdover from STORM times, but I have the impression that it makes satyr solidarity with the environment in which the album is created, reflected, but also a reference to Scandinavian composer Edward Grieg. Summary ? "Satyricon" classify, I find it pretty hard. In contrast to "The Age of Nero", the first impression is not very different from my present, I found this album at first a bit lame and unimpressive. But "Satyricon" is growing. Overgrown. It seems as though this disc the pitch black distillate of years of development, the essence of 23 years of band history. I would not go so far out on a limb, "Satyricon" as the best album of this band to call (for this they have to many quality albums published). But only the album name is a monument, a statement that can never be withdrawn. And this statement - almost exactly the issue - they cater to every minute. TRACKLIST: 01. Voice Of Shadows 02.
