It followed the jazz-fusion formula that the preceding 'Caravanserai' had followed, with a different lineup this time. Gregg Rolie had left the band, along with Neal Schon, to form Journey. They were replaced by Leon Thomas, and John McLaughlin joined for an extended jam. 'Welcome' also featured John Coltrane’s widow, Alice, as a pianist on the album’s opening track, 'Going Home' and Flora Purim, wife of Airto Moreira, on vocals. This was a great follow-up to 'Caravanserai' and is part of the real Santana creative peak and his very successful incorporation of jazz. Includes:
