Saint-Saens - Havanaise - Barbirolli, LSO, Heifetz (1939) [Philidor; FLAC]

There was a time in the 1930s when American record companies ignored Barbirolli's accomplishments on his own, and saw him only as a fine, highly cooperative "accompaniment conductor." They gave him the more finicky cases--and Heifetz definitely could be that, when he so chose. Here we have a perfect meshing of orchestra and soloist, with Barbirolli providing just the right degree of support.
