"Rush - Caravan: single (June 1, 2010)" Review!
After the recent sad news of the death of one of Rock Music's greatest voices, Ronnie James Dio, due to stomach cancer, one only hopes for any sign of good news out of the Rock world. And, here it is! The latest releases by the Canadian power trio, "Rush"! Although, the recordings contained herein are considered singles, and of a 'work in progress' nature, the mighty power chords set down here by Alex Lifeson, lead guitarist reverberate through the darkest days! Geddy Lee adds some modest vocals, but rather quite exceptional bass lines and even a nifty solo, as well! Neil Peart is quite up-to-par behind the drums, and lyrically comforting, if not accessible, especially on "BU2B" aka "Brought Up To Believe". Possibly, the most accessible the band has been in a while, and the song most resembles efforts like "Freewill" with its prose. All-in-all, not a bad way to start the summer! New "Rush", a new tour, although a sort of 'get back' affair, which rumour has the band playing at least one song from all of their 20 studio releases to date as well as the entire "Moving Pictures" disc in one outing! Much reminiscent of amazing tours like their untoppable 1978 "Hemispheres" Tour, which should have been reason enough for a mantle in the annals of Rock's Hall of Shame... But, we won't go there now, will we? In all cases, remembering how quickly and short this precious life of ours really is, one more great chance to see these Great White gods in concert should not be avoided! I have also added a teaser of the epic cinema and DVD release of "Behind The Lighted Stage"! If that doesn't get your creative juices flowing then clammer for a showing near YOU on or near the 10th, because that's the day it hits selective theatres! Finally, if these two rough versions don't make your day then sigh no further the full-length CD, "Clockwork Angels" is due in early January, 2011! That sounds perfect, and one should expect nothing less from our perfected trio of musicians! Keep on Rockin'! - Rick Wilson, former Rock Radio Journalist with Radio Canale Grandé.
