The Digital Dan

Another recording from the "Drive Till You Die" tour that captures the boys in sunny Florida in the middle of December. The band is in great form tonight, quite possibly due to the fine weather in Florida. The Platinum Edition is sourced from a 1st gen tape off of the original master. Unfortunately the original master tape was also missing Cinderella Man, apparently the taper did not tape the encore that evening. Bummer. So this is as good as it is going to get, since the master tape can no longer be located. That being said, this show is surprisingly clear and detailed. It's still a little distant, but everybody is loud and clear with great definition. There is really no hiss to speak of and just a little warble every now and then. Since it is so hard to get a top notch show from this tour (I'm happy for the bonus CD in Different Stages), this show should be a fantastic addition to any fan of early Rush. If you play it loud, you will not be disappointed. Once again, many thanks to Ash for making this show available. As with all Digital Reproductions recordings, it's only available via free trade and never for sale. Just visit the trading links section to find people that will gladly trade this recording for free.?? (2002-01-05)

So far, this is the best source for the AFtK tour (as of Jan '02). This show is sourced as follows: Master Cassette > HIFI VHS > CDr. A trader friend in Atlanta obtained the HIFI directly from the taper and transferred it to CDr. This recording has such warmth and that down-home analogue sound. It sounds really great for a recording that's over 23 years old. Many traders think that Cinderella Man was not played that night, rather than the taper not getting it on tape. Who knows???? If you enjoy this era of Rush, this is a recording you will enjoy for many years to come. PLEASE DO NOT PAY MONEY FOR THIS RECORDING, AS IT IS AVAILABLE FOR FREE THROUGH TRADING. (2002-01-05)

I was very surprised by how excellent this CD is! Its not to distant and has an incredible LACK of tape hiss for a tape so old, to be honest it has an incredible lack for a tape of any age! The sound quality is by no means official release quality, but I consider it nothing short of a miracle its in this great of condition and also doesn't sound to distant. "Bastille Day" is so muffled its basically useless and there is one or two parts were the sound becomes a tad muffled for like 5 seconds, but for 95% of the recording its a lot better than so many well circulated audience tapes. It kills "Signals FLR" and just about every T4E show (but I?m not happy with T4E shows because of the boomy sound). I think its right on target with "Spinning Wheels" for most of the show! The performance is really great as well! What can I say, they clearly felt good and were hitting hard on all areas. There is not much to dislike about the show. My complaints would say that the third disc of "Different Stages" is, of course, better sounding, but this show is more complete so that evens out. The only real complaint is that MOTHER F***ER who won't stop setting off his flipping firecrackers. What an asshole, it doesn't seem anyone there is bugged by it though!?!?! That is not to annoying except during CTTH and "Anthem" its totally distracting, to the point of ruining it almost. It's a special kind of ass who can piss people off 24 years after his stunts! The casual bootlegger would be happy with "Different Stages". However, if your anymore devote than that, this is a must!!! (2002-04-17)

I have to say, this is, in my personal opinion, the best from the tour. The sound quality is really great, I love it so much. There is barely any distance, so you get the full sound, and the crowd is gone in the songs, so no crowd noise, equalling greater sound. The drums are a little low, but that really isn't a problem, you can still hear them just fine. The bass is booming, not at all muddy, and Geddy is right up-front. The only real problem is that there is no "Cinderella Man" recorded. But, overall a great show, I totally recommend this to anyone. (2008-11-17)
