Description Edumund Rubbra wrote two piano concertos. The first, composed in his youth, was never published, so the second was typically referred to as though it was the only one. It came about in a flurry of interest for the composer, celebrating his forthcoming 75th birthday. Rubbra, who had been neglected much like other representatives of tonal music in Britain once the musical-powers-that-be decided to exclusively back the serialists, took to the sudden attention with genuine pleasure. Though a shy person in some respects, he considered his craft very seriously, and was hurt by the rejection of the BBC and various orchestras who wanted nothing but 12-tone music among their new compositions. The Piano Concerto was regarded as a great success at its premiere. Transfers are made at 768 kBits/s, directly from the disc. Two bios enclosed.
