Description
It was previously believed that no official soundtrack album had ever been issued for the 1983 Nelvana animated film, Rock & Rule. However, as it turns out, a handful of film critics received a cassette tape featuring nine songs ("Hot Dogs and Sushi" and "Send Love Through" were omitted). All songs are extended from how they appear in the film and in familiar copies. This is the ever first release of these versions of the songs that I'm aware of. Four or five songs appear here in versions not previously heard. Deborah Harry – "Angel's Song" / "Invocation Song" Cheap Trick – "Born to Raise Hell" / "I'm the Man" / "Ohm Sweet Ohm" Lou Reed – "My Name Is Mok" / "Triumph" Earth Wind & Fire – "Dance Dance Dance" Iggy Pop – "Pain & Suffering" Melleny Brown – "Hot Dogs and Sushi" Deborah Harry and Robin Zander – "Send Love Through" We received decent stereo audio of "Angel's Song" and "My Name is Mok" from this cassette, but the capture was much lower quality and in mono for "Triumph," "Invocation Song" and "Pain and Suffering." We also found a music video for "Pain and Suffering" which was better quality but also in mono (and slightly incomplete). I have done my best with the material, editing it together with the versions heard in the film (here from a 5.1 mix). The film's surround channels were used to omit some dialogue and extend "Hot Dogs & Sushi." I have also included the movie versions of the songs, and the versions heard on the original cassette. The first versions of "Angel's Song," "My Name is Mok," "Triumph," "Invocation Song" and "Pain & Suffering" that you'll hear on this disc combine both the film and cassette versions into one edit as best as possible. "Born to Raise Hell," "I'm the Man," "Dance Dance Dance," and "Ohm Sweet Ohm" have been officially issued on CD, and appear here from that source, along with an alternate version of "Pain and Suffering," and "Maybe For Sure" (an alternate version of "Angel's Song"). ---- Rock & Rule (known as Ring of Power outside of North America) is a 1983 Canadian animated musical science fiction fantasy film from the animation studio Nelvana. It was produced and directed by the company's founders, Michael Hirsh, Patrick Loubert, and Clive A. Smith. The film features the voices of Don Francks, Greg Salata, and Susan Roman. It was the studio's first feature film and the first one produced entirely within Canada. Centering on rock and roll music, the film includes songs by Cheap Trick, Chris Stein and Debbie Harry of the pop group Blondie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, and Earth, Wind & Fire. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic United States populated by mutant humanoids. With John Halfpenny, Patrick Loubert, and Peter Sauder at the helm of its screenplay, Rock & Rule was inspired by Nelvana's earlier TV special from 1978, The Devil and Daniel Mouse. Its distributor, MGM, acquired United Artists at the time and the new management team had no interest in it. As a result, it was never released in North America except for a limited release in Boston. It received minor attention in Germany, where it was screened at a film festival. It was funded in part by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, which had obtained the Canadian TV rights. A hard-to-find VHS was released at that time, followed by a laserdisc release. The film developed a cult following from repeated airings on HBO and Showtime and the circulation of bootleg VHS copies at comic book convention booths. Related Torrents
