John Klein, een journalist uit Washington, neemt ontslag wanneer zijn vrouw tijdens een verkeersongeluk overlijdt.
Wanneer hij zich op een avond 2 jaar later ineens in het plaatsje Pleasant Point blijkt te bevinden,
gaat hij meldingen van visioenen en waarnemingen van gevleugelde schepsels in het kleine dorpje in West Virginia onderzoeken.
