TRAMA:

Quando la potentissima dirigente editoriale Margaret (Sandra Bullock) rischia di essere deportata nella sua terra natale, il Canada, questa brillante professionista dichiara di essere fidanzata con il suo assistente Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), che non sospetta nulla e che lei ha tormentato per anni. Lui accetta di partecipare all'imbroglio, ma pone delle condizioni. L'improbabile coppia si dirige allora in Alaska per incontrare la bizzarra famiglia dell'assistente (interpretata da Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson e Betty White) e questa donna metropolitana sempre in controllo si ritrova in tante situazioni in cui risulta un pesce fuor d'acqua. Con un imminente matrimonio in vista e un ufficiale del servizio immigrazione alle calcagna, Margaret e Andrew giurano con riluttanza di rimanere fedeli al piano, nonostante le conseguenze imprevedibili che potrebbe avere.

STORYLINE:

For three years, Andrew Paxton has slaved as the assistant to Margaret Tate, hard-driving editor at a New York publisher. When Margaret, a Canadian, faces deportation for an expired visa, she hatches a scheme to marry Andrew - he agrees if she'll promise a promotion. A skeptical INS agent vows to test the couple about each other the next Monday. Andrew had plans to fly home that weekend for his grandma's 90th, so Margaret goes with him - to Sitka, Alaska - where mom, dad, and grams await. Family dynamics take over: tensions between dad and Andrew, an ex-girlfriend, Andrew's dislike of Margaret, and her past color the next few days, with the INS ready to charge Andrew with fraud.
