Lester Person è un uomo ossessionato dalle scommesse sulle corse dei cavalli, nonché un moderno Landru cannibale. Egli seduce anziane donne facoltose e vedove al fine di estorcere loro denaro per le sue scommesse e pagare così i debiti di gioco. Ad un certo punto entra in scena un imitatore, che inizia ad uccidere vedove seguendo le modalità di Lester però lasciando in giro indizi con i quali la polizia riesce a risalire presto a Lester. Questi deve nascondersi e cercare stratagemmi per sfuggire alla polizia. Inoltre l'uomo non riesce più a scorgere la propria ombra...
