Description
Not easily classified, Pucho & His Latin Soul Brothers' mix of jazz, soul, Latin music, and even bits of pop and psychedelia might have caused him and his band to be relatively overlooked, despite the high and at times exhilarating quality of the music.
Fans of R&B, rock, and Latin music can immediately connect with him, especially as he's always made sure to play music that's hot and danceable. His accessibility, however, has by no means compromised the quality of his material or his Latin Soul Brothers bands, which have featured fine and versatile players. This two-fer brings together a couple of his late-'60s albums, 1968's Big Stick and 1969's Dateline, onto one disc.PUCHO and The Latin Soul Brothers / Big Stick, 1968 / Dateline, 1969 Dateline 1969 / Big Stick 1968 CD / 2012 / 320Kbps 15 Tracks: Tracks 1 to 8 from Big Stick Tracks 9 to 15 from Dateline Big Stick-Dateline: 01 Swamp People.mp3 6 MB 02 No One Knows.mp3 11 MB 03 Here's That Rainy Day.mp3 9 MB 04 Sunny.mp3 12 MB 05 Left in the Cold.mp3 7 MB 06 Cold Shoulder.mp3 10 MB 07 Big Stick.mp3 10 MB 08 Yesterday-Going Out of My Head.mp3 12 MB 09 Dateline.mp3 15 MB 10 How Did It Happen-.mp3 7 MB 11 Ain't Nothin' Can't Happen.mp3 12 MB 12 Tell Me.mp3 10 MB 13 Listen to Louie.mp3 8 MB 14 Bim.mp3 17 MB 15 Yambo.mp3 14 MB *Big Stick, the only Pucho album done without a horn section, is the more adventurous of the pair, even if its eclecticism sometimes makes it sound a little like it was taken from sessions for albums of different intentions. In part that's due to the presence of the appealingly rough'n'ready singer Jackie Soul on four tracks, pushing the music toward pop-soul on "No One Knows" and "Big Stick" in particular. The use of a clavinet (by Neal Creque, who also contributed organ and wrote about half the material) on "Swamp People" gives it an exotic, entrancing feel, though - perhaps wanting to assure listeners they weren't getting too far out - there's also a cover of Bobby Hebb's soul smash "Sunny," as well as a medley of "Yesterday" and "Going Out of My Head." *Dateline is far more conventional, entirely instrumental Latin jazz, but certainly satisfying, even if it lacks the highs of Big Stick. "Yambo" is a modern mambo, and "Tell Me," one of several songs written or co-written by Creque, shows how he and the band could bring sentimental soulful pop into their approach without selling out. :) Sharing Widget |
