Il film è ambientato nella Francia del XVIII secolo. Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, nato nel quartiere più povero di Parigi e abbandonato subito dopo la nascita, cresce in un orfanotrofio scoprendo di possedere un olfatto eccezionale.


Dopo aver lavorato in una conceria, riesce a farsi assumere da un famoso profumiere. L'ossessione di riuscire ad estrarre il profumo da ogni cosa, lo porterà da Parigi fino in Provenza, per scoprire i segreti dell'enfleurage. Il suo sogno di creare “il profumo perfetto”, capace di far innamorare, lo condurrà a trasformarsi, quasi inconsapevolmente, in un serial killer di giovani fanciulle.

The film is set in France in the eighteenth century. Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, born in the poorest district of Paris and abandoned shortly after birth, grew up in an orphanage discovering that they have a great sense of smell.


After working in a tannery, he was hired by a renowned perfumer. The obsession to be able to recreate the smell of everything, it will take him from Paris to Provence, to discover the secrets of the “enfleurage”. His dream to create "the perfect perfume", able to fall in love, will lead him to become, almost unconsciously, a serial killer of young girls.
