The Print Mint started as retailer of psychedelic posters on Haight Street in San Francisco, California, United States, during the 1960s. It evolved into a major publisher of underground comics. It was originally owned by poet Don Shenker and his wife Alice partnered in the business with Bob and Peggy Rita1. It no longer publishes comic books but the poster shop still exists.

PRINT MINT ALREADY LIVED INSIDE MOE'S BOOKS IN BERKELEY when Bob & Peggy Rita and Don & Alice Schenker partnered up in 1966 to form The Print Mint over in the Haight Ashbury of San Francisco right next to world famous Golden Gate Park wherein soon the Human Be-In would occur. Print Mint in the Haight soon became one of the main sources of information and creative energy in what these days some of us call a "counter-culture." They quickly grew from being simple retailers into the more complex cross country operations of distributing and then publishing. Print Mint published many many posters in the 1960s and 1970s and distributed most every one else into their national system.

Don and Moe Moskowitz had been NYC roommates during 50s Beat Days. Don knew the artists more so, Bob built the distribution system, and their wives ran the nuts & bolts keeping it all together. These valiant people faced down bone-crushing lawsuits over ZAP COMICS while Robert Crumb, Rick Griffin, S Clay Wilson, Victor Moscoso, Gilbert Shelton, Spain Rodregiuz & Robert Williams. Print Mint also published Mr Natural, The Legion of Charlies, Moondog, Cheech Wizard, and so many other great comix books. Their bold experiment with Arcade The Comix Revue sporting great Crumb covers in the main, edited by Art Spiegelman and Bill Griffith paved the way for RAW! just a few years later
