E01 - Birth of the Planet

Dinosaurs rose up as rulers of Earth . Eventually dominating all other species and relegating mammals to the shadows. But repeatedly the planet was rocked by yet another massive event when, seemingly out of nowhere, the mighty dinosaurs were wiped off the face of Earth. But without this devastating catastrophe humans would not be here today.

This film explores the trail of clues that lead to what extinguished the dinosaurs and ultimately led to the evolution of humans. Cutting-edge scientists, palaeontologists and geologists investigate what could be responsible and chart the story behind the widely held theory that Earth was hit once again by a deadly asteroid. What is the Cycle?

Red Deer Valley in the spectacular Badlands of Canada shows an abundance of dinosaur fossils below a mysterious thin layer of rock. But fossils completely disappear above the layer, indicating that something huge happened very suddenly. Extra-terrestrial elements in Spanish coastal rocks provide signs that the culprit for the dinosaurs' demise may have come from outer space. But if an impact was responsible, where did it hit Earth?

This programme documents the treasure hunt of a group of the most eminent palaeontologists in the world. Eventually they are led to a giant crater in Mexico - the 'smoking gun' which they believe proves that an asteroid the size of Mount Everest slammed into Earth. Filming from a helicopter over the breathtaking Meteor Crater in Arizona, a Nasa space scientist describes the immediate aftermath of the asteroid impact. The 'Dark Star' Theory
Researcher Andy Lloyd discussed his 'Dark Star Theory,' the Anunnaki & Nibiru, and Planet X, as well as his recent novel Ezekiel One. In February, he spoke at the Return of Planet X Conference held in Rome, and found that many of the Italian attendees were terrified about the possibility of a rogue planet heading our way in 2012, and suspicious that governments were covering up information about Planet X.

Lloyd's dark star theory proposes that a sub brown dwarf is a kind of companion star to our sun and exists in the far reaches of the solar system between the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud. He estimated that it's some 500 to 1,000 astronomical units away (our sun is 1 astronomical unit away from Earth). The dark star could have vast magnetic and gravitational fields that interact with the sun, and recent anomalies detected in the outer solar system, could be evidence of its presence.

Further, the brown dwarf may be orbited by its own moons, some of which might contain life. One of these moons could be the planet referred to by Zecharia Sitchin as Niburi, the home world of the Annunaki. Lloyd incorporated the Annunaki as characters in his book Ezekiel One, exploring the idea that aliens are living among us. His novel, a conspiracy thriller, is set in the last months of 2012, and deals with government secrecy and Planet X.

INTENTIONS FOR THIS FANEDIT:

Neither of the officially released versions of David Lynch's visually amazing 'Dune' are satisfactory. The Theatrical Version was gutted to the point of incomprehension by executive producer Dino De Laurentiis in his quest to make it a two hour edit. The easier-to-follow Extended Version with restored footage was so incompetently put together by MCA TV that Lynch removed his name from the writing and directing credits.

Broadly, my intention with the Alternative Edition is to improve storytelling and flow by preserving the best elements from both official versions of the film while also integrating some newly available deleted scenes. The Alternative Edition is based more on the Extended Version of 'Dune' than ADigitalMan's "Reconstructed Workprint" fanedit (eg. my version uses the male narrator) which makes mine a significantly different take on the film. I have used the 6th and 7th drafts of Lynch's original script as a guide but have also taken my own liberties with the material.
