Perg (#1-#8) (1993-1994) (Lightning)

Ramen Perg was once a police officer serving the city of Chicago the 19th-century USA. He loved his childhood sweetheart, Elizabeth Dumont, and they were engaged to be married. Before they could be wed though, Lucifer sent his minions to kidnap Elizabeth.

Knowing that Perg would go to any lengths necessary to find his love, Lucifer held back on the surprise he had in store for the policeman until he located the underground facility where she was being held captive. Then, the prince of evil struck: before Perg's eyes, Elizabeth was brutally murdered as a sacrifice to the dark lord.

Lucifer's plan to corrupt and steal Perg's soul worked almost perfectly, driving the officer insane with rage and grief. Eventually, he was cornered by the frightened citizens of Chicago and stoned to death. Fearing Perg even in death, they bound him in chains, placed a cross on his chest, and then burned his remains.

Despite all of this, Perg never gave himself completely over to darkness. Eventually, he was reborn into the world, where he has strived ever since to oppose evil and promote the power of good wherever it is necessary. He now stalks the streets of Chicago after dark, saving and redeeming those who have made poor choices with a blade that eradicates sin while leaving the body intact.
