Description
Peppermint Harris Texas on My Mind
Label: Aim Records Released :1995 Format : Mp3@320 Peppermint Harris is a by product of that generation of blues singers whose stylings bridged the gap between the country blues and R&B. He seemed to come out of nowhere and have some surprise hits. The time was the late '40s and early '50s and the post-war economy was booming. Black audiences were turning their collective backs on the rural blues tradition in favor of a new uptown sound. As a bonafide recording star Peppermint Harris cut the classic drinking song "I Got Loaded". He moved out to California in order to tour with Lowell Fulsom, Ray Charles, Little Esther Phillipps and others. Throughout the '50s and '60s he recorded for dozens of labels including Dart, Duke, Peacock, "X", Golden Eagle, Jewel, etc. In the early '80s he retired and moved to Sacramento, California, where he lives today in government subsidized housing, or as he refers to it, the Penthouse In The Ghetto. Some of these tracks were recorded in Houston in 1994 when he came back home to play the kind of blues he grew up listening to. Nobody had ever heard him sing the country blues as well as urban blues styles, but we think you'll agree that he's as good as they come.
