Description Not much is known about Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi, sometimes referred to as Pandolfi Mealli. He was born in Tuscany; he died in Madrid. He was a violinist employed in 1660 at the Innsbruck court of Ferdinand Charles, Archduke of Austria. Numerous collections of his works were published, but only two survive: his opus 3 and 4 violin sonatas. They demonstrate an active imagination in the new proto-sonata, with its mix of dramatic recitatives, arias, and contrapuntal and dance movements.
