Nearly half a million Jews have illegally settled in the West Bank of Palestine since 1967. Winner of Best Documentary at Sundance Film Festival, this film amounts to a series of memories and rich historical anecdotes. Nine retired judges share their expertise, ranging from military to Supreme Court justices and lawyers. Alexandrowicz questions the laws imposed by the Israel Defense Forces on the Palestinian civilian population, his subjects framed sitting at a desk on a raised platform while a screen behind them projects images. Symbols of authority and justice foreground horrific individual narratives, mirroring their implied importance in shaping the wider story. Ra’anan Alexandroricz questions his own cinematic methodology by drawing attention to his editing of the extracts. “I edit film”, and “information” goes “through me”, he states.
