Or so it seems at first glance. It has to be said, this doesn’t upstage its predecessor, although there are guest appearances of Mikkey Dee (drums on ‘Zombie Slam’), Anders Iwers and Alexi Laiho (In Flames and Children Of Bodom). For that the tracks vary too much style wise, but with tracks like the remarkable Björk cover ‘Play Dead’, the stampeding ‘Nailed To The Ground’, the raunchy and “hit-to-be ‘Zombie Slam’ and the 1000% Pain track ‘Psalms Of Extinction’ Peter succeeds yet again in delivering a couple of superb songs. And after a couple of fly bys something strange happens. As a ship coming out of the fog, the album reveals a cunning balance and consistency. It IS coherent. The tracks DO fit together. Even ‘Just Think Again‘ which sounds somewhat dull at first, fits in like hand in glove, when listening to the whole album. There are people out there that will state that on this album Peter is searching for a direction. As if he couldn’t make up his mind on which way to go; a more heavy guitar orientated sound as in the opener ‘Save Your Prayers‘ or the very successful, more trance/ Depeche Mode-pop style. Well, whatever the case may be, fact is that there’s more than enough top notch material on this album to call it another superb album by Pain. But, as said, don’t expect ‘Dancing With The Dead Part II’, because that stands as the best album of Pain up to this point in time, at least in my book. Sharing Widget |
