Description
TITLE:
Oxford Handbook of Clinical Dentistry Description Synopsis The new edition of this essential guide pocket guide covers the whole of clinical dentistry in a concise format. The authors have distilled the essentials of clinical practice into a readily accessible style with blank pages provided for readers to add their own notes. This edition has been completely revised with a wealth of new information including web-based learning and useful websites, more diagrams and color clinical pictures. New material includes information on caries risk assessment, new preparation techniques such as air abrasion and sonic preparation; the latest developments in pediatric dentistry including new restorative approaches and behavior management, dietary advice treatment of the handicapped patient. Annotation The book contains black-and-white illustrations. Louis Graham This is truly a handbook of many areas in the field of dentistry. This second edition appears four years after its predecessor. Though the book breaks dentistry down to 18 chapters, it is made up of hundreds of pages of a variety of topics related to the field of dentistry. "The purpose is to allow the reader easy access to a host of information about dentistry in one book. Such objectives may be worthy for dental students or dentists who believe such a book may be necessary, but this book wouldn't be needed in a full library in an office. The authors, in my opinion, cover so many areas that it makes me wonder whether they met their objectives. "This book is for students and recent graduates who want to interact with it (i.e.,. the clinicians would take the time to make notes in the blank pages). In my opinion there are enough quality books that cover such subjects in a better and easier manner. "This book is composed primarily of text with very few illustrations and diagrams. The references are minimal. The table of contents is standard, and I found the index to be a very good one. One unique feature of this book is that it covers more areas in dentistry than in any book I've read. "This handbook may be useful to the most recent graduates or dental student but I doubt that it is necessary. The authors believe that such a handbook will invite its reader to interact with it, an objective I find unrealistic. Although the book contains fact after fact, I found it too superficial in too many areas for me to be comfortable in using this as a constant reference.
