Orazio Vecchi - Madrigal Comedies - The Consort of Musicke (2000) [Philidor; FLAC] (Size: 262.68 MB)
DescriptionOrazio Vecchi was by all accounts a fiery priest (not in the same sense as Vivaldi, nicknamed Il Prete Rosso, on account of his red hair), whose terrible temper probably didn't help his career. He did however secure a few lucrative positions, largely in Modena. His madrigal comedies are associated with a scorching wit that he occasionally turned on his colleagues. (One, not included in this album, makes a deliberate and funny hash of a very serious madrigal composed by one of Vecchi's older contemporaries.) The two works heard here are examples of his virtuosic approach to vocal expressiveness, which had become something of a banner cry among the more forward looking musicians of his generation. Transfers are made at 768 kBits/s, directly from the disc. Bio, Italian texts and English translations enclosed.
