A true story... Saipan remains a battlefield with unexploded ord ALL over the the place. Must have been one hell of a fight. I live there and I can tell this guy OBA is real.. He is a local legend. Died in the 90's. He was a whole lot more vicious than portrayed, however. Sniping at anything that moved and slicing up the unwary and leaving the remains for all to see. He did not stay near Tapochau, however,, he was North in Marpi. Better caves and lots of convoluted valleys and ridges. I know.. I lived on top of Tapachau for 2 years : ). Interestingly, the Major who accepted his sword in surrender and Oba became close friends and the Major returned Oba's sword to him in the mid 1980's during a trip to Japan. Pretty neat stuff. Unfortunately, the movie does not do the battle justice nor does it flesh out Oba's gorilla campaign which lasted over a year.

Over in Guam.. the last Japanese soldier came out in 1974!!!! The stock of his Arasaka rifle had disintegrated and he was living in grass skirts. \n

Talk about hard core...

Quality was great. Movie was okay, the only real complaint was the America actors were just awful. Also when he was trying to explain why the Japanese killed themselves I couldn't help but to facepalm and laugh at how stupid he sounded.
