Description Laudi--Sacred songs of praise--were originally a rural phenomenon, far away from the complex Franco-Flemish polyphony that dominated the courts of the Italian States. But musicians traveled easily between the rural, sacred, and court life of Venice and Florence; and eventually the laudi became fashionable enough in the last for musicians to both use rural material in their own sophisticated renditions, and to compose their own laudi. Though the names of specific composers for individual works are largely lost today, the music survives in several period manuscripts, and Micrologus gives it all a rousing performance.
