Notebooks is the only notebook you ever need. Use Notebooks to create carefully formatted documents with styles and embedded photos, or to quickly write plain text notes. Convert between these formats any time, and if you want to use Markdown, Notebooks knows how to handle that as well. It is a perfect, distraction free writing environment.

Notebooks stores and displays almost any type of document: plain text and formatted text, PDF, web pages, MS Office documents, photos, videos, music and much more. Everything you want to keep organized can go directly into Notebooks.

Notebooks also keeps your task lists and allows you to tick off your to-dos as you complete them. Divide your projects into nested sub projects, which makes them easier to handle, and cross-reference into your reference library, which, of course, is in Notebooks, too.

Notebooks can share its files with the mobile versions of Notebooks on the iPad and iPhone, which allows you to conveniently work on your documents from your desktop, but also on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch when you are on your way. The synchronization between the devices currently supports Dropbox and many WebDAV servers (with Dropbox currently being the most convenient option).

Additions / Improvements

- Notebooks Server - a built in WebDAV server to share books and documents locally (start and stop in Preferences)
- Quick Search option in list of documents - acts like search for title in current book
-"Create Link" in a formatted document accepts anchors within current document (#name)
- Anchors are accepted in URLs and Notebooks links
- Formatted documents: "Copy Link to Current Selection" copies the link to the selected phrase; this makes it possible to link to a specific section of a document.
- Use system setting for smart quotes
- Spring loaded folders in tree view open after 1 second (during drag & drop)
- Rearranged Preferences dialog
- Improved organization and display of recent items

Markdown

- Improved Markdown formatting and layout for headers (in plain text view)
- Treat ':' like a list item as well; this ensures that multiple lines of text for definition lists is correctly aligned
- New setting: Show Markdown documents as plain text by default
- Setting to select which emphasis character (_ or *) should be used for cmd-B and cmd-I
- When "Convert to Combined Markdown" is selected, "New Markdown" creates a combined Markdown as well


Fixes / Corrections

- When changing font, background or style of formatted documents, the changes are now reliably applied
- When dropping images into documents, uppercase filename extensions are no longer ignored
- Correctly handle umlauts in internal links
- Correctly handle file:// links
- Improved auto-naming of documents in case of conflicts
- Allow unlimited tabs in plain text
- Optimized handling of Due Tasks (should be less CPU intensive)
- Text is now saved automatically 3 seconds after last key press
- More reliable renaming of "bundle files" like iWork, RTFD or OmniFocus
- When "move to trash" is not possible, reliably delete document after confirmation
- Improved plain text printing (window width fits page)
- Move documents to top level by dropping them into empty area below tree view (left column)
