The first vampire awakens in present day Mumbai after being betrayed in 1945. He gathers his powers for his return and revenge. Also features flashbacks to his time in Caligula's Rome.

In the first part, Erick Van Hess has flashbacks to the events that changed him from a loving husband and father into an obsessed, take-no-prisoners vampire hunter, part of the Nimrods force.
Then we are back to the present... then the ancient past, dealing with the creation and lives (such as they are) of Nosferatu and Vlad(ek)... then the recent past... the present... history and memory ebb and flow.
Love, lust, and longing form a major part of the lead vampires' motives (eg. betrayals) and events (eg. resurrections).
Alliances between vampire-vampire and vampire-human are made and broken (really, nothing is sacred.)
Nosferatu is the first father/master and the last of The Dark (his mysterious ancestors). But there's one unidentified Dark being alive who is even older than him... the creature watches from the shadows and manipulates events around Nosferatu.
