Description
Sunk
Duration: 1 hour First broadcast: Saturday 28 May 2011 A drama to mark the 100 year anniversary of the Launch of Titanic (31st May 1911). This is the fascinating story behind the 1943 Nazi propaganda film, Titanic, which was up until then, the most expensive German film ever. The film was commissioned by Goebbels with a view to discredit British and American capitalists. Ironically, this production became a symbol for the corruption and 'sinking' of the Third Reich itself. In WWII P G Wodehouse was interned first in France, and then in Germany. During his internment, he made made some broadcasts on German radio. These broadcasts caused many to label him a traitor, and led to his post war self-imposed exile in the USA. Why are books about the Third Reich such an ongoing publishing phenomenon in the UK....and what does it say about us? Sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff AVAILABILITY:OVER A YEAR LEFT TO PLAY Duration: 10 minutes First broadcast: Tuesday 25 January 2011 Horst Woit was just 10 years old when he and his mother boarded a ship in the hope of escaping Russian forces towards the end of World War II.
