A surreal, paranoid fantasy about Bill Lee, a writer/exterminator who shares with his wife Joan an addiction to the hallucinogenic "bug powder" he uses in his work. When he accidentally kills her attempting to shoot a glass off her head, he's forced to flee to the North African port called Interzone, where odd conversations with his typewriter/cockroach lead to his involvement in a mysterious plot.

Not an adaptation of beat writer William S. Burrough's novel but a mix of biography and an interpretation of his drug- induced writing processes combined with elements of his work.

Won 7 of 10 Genie Award Nominations, including Best Motion Picture, Best Direction and Best Achievement in Cinematography.
