Music for the Movies - The Hollywood Sound

Music for the Movies is a set of four documentaries made in 1992. This episode, "The Hollywood Sound", explores the days when Hollywood studios kept full orchestras; music editors had to work closely with composers who knew nothing about film.

Host John Mauceri focusses on renewed interest in the scores created for films in the 1930s and '40s: the legacy of Max Steiner (Gone with the Wind), Franz Waxman (Bride of Frankenstein) and Erich Korngold (The Adventures of Robin Hood). Americans David Raskin (Laura) and Alfred Newman (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) are also featured.
