Description

The Southwest Chief is one of Amtrak's western transcontinental trains between Chicago IL. and Los Angeles CA., following in the footsteps of the original Santa Fe Super Chief. This train makes its way westward across the midwestern US states traversing a variety of different geographical areas, including the American Plains, the Colorado Plateau, the Arizona Mountain Forest, and the Mojave Desert. The Southwest Chief has been operating since the formation of Amtrak in 1971.

This modern interpretation of the Southwest Chief includes a consist of both Superliner I and II passenger cars, pulled by Amtrak-modified P42DC locomotives. Locomotives 206 and 207, are the last two P42DC locos delivered to Amtrak by General Electric, in 2001. They also represent a recent move by Amtrak to modify the front headlight housing. The new housing has rounded corners, and it is assumed that Amtrak has made this modifications to deal with light refraction in the original headlight housings. Also included are a fleet of completely refurbished Superliner cars. These models have been modified with higher resolution textures and other details.
