Moyzes - Sym No 1 - Ladislav Slovak, Slovak RSO (1993) [Philidor; FLAC] (Size: 172.91 MB)
DescriptionThe Serbian composer Alexander Moyzes was a student of Vitezslav Novak, and professor of composition at the Bratislava Music Academy. His orchestral works fall deceptively easily on the ear: late Romanticism and Impressionism, but not so much themes and thematic development as thematic cells that appear and disappear seemingly without order, tempos and moods apparently shifting at will. His First Symphony dates from 1929, just after his graduation from the Prague Conservatory. It was highly regarded almost at once: premiered by Oskar Nedbal, but taken up soon after by Vaclav Talich and the prestigious Czech Philharmonic. Though highly praised in print, the self-critical Moyzes returned to it in 1937, removing some folk elements and rewriting a good deal else. Transfers are made at 768 kBits/s, directly from the disc.
