MIKHAIL ALEKSANDROVICH SHOLOKHOV (1905-1984) was a Soviet/Russian novelist. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1965.

Sholokhov is best known for writing about the life and fate of Don Cossacks during the First World War, the Russian Revolution and Civil War, primarily in his epic novel AND QUIET FLOWS THE DON (1928-40). (Trivia: The lyrics for the folk song "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" by Pete Seeger and Joe Hickerson were adapted from a Cossack folk song mentioned in the novel.) I have also included THE FATE OF A MAN, a short story published in 1957 and made into a popular Russian film directed by Sergei Bondarchuk.

The following books are in PDF format:

* THE FATE OF A MAN (Progress Publishers, 1957). Translated by Robert Daglish.

* AND QUIET FLOWS THE DON (Penguin, 1967). Translated by Stephen Garry.
