Title: The Sonet Blues Story
Label: Verve
Release Date: 2006
Format: MP3 @ 320 K
Review:
Though the Chicago blues artist Mighty Joe Young worked mostly as a sideman throughout the 1950s and '60s, he released some fine solo work in the '70s and after. THE SONET BLUES STORY captures Young performing live in Chicago in 1972 with his crack South Side Band, which includes a bassist, drummer, pianist, and horn section. Young plays Chicago blues in the classic mold augmented with soul flavor. His searing licks and solid vocals are front and center throughout, but it's the collective power of the band that lends this recording its punch.
