Meulemans - Sym No 3 - Devreese, Moscow SO (1994) [Philidor; FLAC] (Size: 62.52 MB)
DescriptionArthur Meulemans (1884-1966) was the most important Belgian advocate of Debussy, much to the horror of his teacher, Edgar Tinel. Meulemans was by no means a Debussy manque, but had his own way of using Debussy's harmonic vocabulary alongside Flemish rhythms and folk characteristics. He didn't write symphonies until the 1930s. After that, he completed 15 of them. The Third of 1933 is an example of the Nachtmusik programmatic genre, it's four movements tied at least slightly to different aspects of moonlight, trees, and dawn. That may seem precious, but Meulemans handles his musical idiom with a great deal of sensitivity and subtlety. Transfers are made at 768 kBits/s, directly from the disc. Bio enclosed.
