No idea why the padding files are there. Showing that I have the latest version of BitComet.

try switching to utorrent. Bitcomet is on 1.40. The padding files are from an older version. I dumped BC years ago when Kazaa was the site to use. Padding files were a weird issue back then...and in a decade they haven't fixed it.

If you uncheck the box Align file to piece boundary (in the window that opens when you click on Make torrent) it eliminates the issue.
