GAME PLAY FAQ

1. What is Bullet Time and how can I use it to my advantage?

Bullet Time allows Max to slow down time. When Bullet Time is activated, game play slows but Max can still aim weapons in real-time.
Bullet Time is a limited resource and drains over time as indicated by the hourglass in the lower left hand side of the screen. Once activated,
toggle Bullet Time on and off by pressing the Bullet Time Key again. For every enemy Max takes out, he will gain a little more Bullet Time.
Bullet Time will also regenerate slowly during gameplay. Take multiple enemies out quickly and the hourglass will turn different shades of yellow.
If it is activated, Max goes even deeper into "the zone." Enemies are slower, but Max's movements and speed remain the same. When in Bullet Time,
the deeper the shade of yellow, the more edge over the enemies Max has. In Bullet Time, pay very close attention and dodge bullets as they fly by.
This is a good way of avoiding damage in hectic gunfights. Use Bullet Time while sniping to help improve aim. Most importantly, make full use
Shootdodging and Bullet Time. Max Payne 2 can be very difficult without using these.

2. Is everyone out to get me -should I just blaze away?

No. When a character offers to fight alongside Max Payne, take them up on the offer! Don't run ahead of them - watch their actions and use them
to your advantage. Talk to any characters encountered along the way. They may reveal important information or provide weapons and painkillers.
Other than the thugs out to get me, should I watch out for anything else? Max will take damage and die if he encounters real world hazards, e.g.
flames. Max Payne will also suffer pain if he is in the proximity of explosions, etc. Walls and other obstacles will provide cover for Max.

3. Can Max jump down from high places?

If Max falls from a high location, he will be injured and if the drop is high enough he may die.

4. I shot several shots at this enemy but he would not go down. What's happening?

Weapons have different characteristics. Some offer a better rate of fire and more damage. Remember the accuracy of weapons at a distance may
vary greatly. Your selection of weapon for an encounter is an important choice. Within the game Max will encounter enemies with different levels
of training, stamina and behaviors. All enemies are not alike -some more prominent enemies may be tougher to beat. Some enemy types have body
armor covering their torsos. Also shooting at enemies' critical areas will cause more damage than shooting his feet. Some areas of enemies are more
vulnerable than others- use this to your advantage.

5. I have enabled the "select best weapon" from the game options menu -will this work best in all
areas?

It selects the generally most lethal weapon at your disposal. The best weapon selection does not take into account the particular situation.
You may choose different weapons to spare certain ammo or to use more accurate weapons if taking shots from a distance. If you feel that best
weapon option does not suit your playing style deselect this from the game options menu.

6. Why did Max Payne not pick up the ammo?

For each weapon there is a specific amount of ammo that Max can carry. Once this is reached he cannot collect any more of that
ammo until some has been dispensed. Reload the weapon if you have a half empty clip - this way you may be able to pick up the full amount of ammo.

7. What items can Max use?

You will need to use items in the game to progress. Max's head will turn towards interesting items to indicate them. Max may find TV shows,
answering machines and other items of interest during game play -don't pass these up. Take time to use these items and gain information about the story.

8. I did well before but things are getting tougher, what's happening?

Some parts of the game might be trickier for different gamers, but the self-adjusting skill level has probably evaluated your performance
and the level of difficulty has been set to match your abilities. Remember, this also works the other way round: if you had problems
completing a level, the game will ease up a bit and give you a little more slack.

9. How can I skip the cinematics?

You can skip the cinematics you've already seen by pressing space bar or the assigned use key. To avoid accidental skipping of cinematics,
there is a 4 second delay where you can't skip the cinematic. However, pressing space twice quickly skips the cinematic instantly.

Miscellaneous Tips:

Never forget to search each level thoroughly. Painkillers and weapons are hidden throughout the levels in some very unexpected places.
Use explosive objects to your advantage. Take out multiple enemies at once by shooting a single explosive barrel or ammo crate.
If Max crouches (hit 'C') during a gunfight, he presents a smaller target and is less likely to get hit. Crouching behind obstacles in combat provides
the required second or two to reload a weapon before diving back into the action. Crouching will also steady the sniper rifle.
A good tactic in gun fights is to keep moving - don't be an easy target by standing still! Move side-to-side, do evasive rolls, and hide behind pillars and
walls when reloading. Sometimes the best defense is offence - when confronted by multiple enemies don't retreat. By pushing ahead and taking out
enemies Max will gain more Bullet Time and the tables can be turned.

NEW YORK MINUTE

After you play through Max Payne once, the "Hard-Boiled" difficulty level and the "New York Minute" game mode are unlocked. New York Minute
is a hectic mode for speed-running. Each map starts out with a timer ticking. Taking out enemies reduces the time, Graphic Novels and cinematics
stop the timer from progressing, and Bullet Time reduces the timers' progression to correspond to the slowdown. The times are saved and you can
review your record runs -the faster you are, the better. The time printed is the net play time, excluding in-game cinematics, graphic novels, loading
levels, saving the game and loading saved games. In New York Minute mode, look for shortcuts. Sometimes, what you need to do is modify your
tactics. Some routes of progress may be faster than others, yet you might want to encounter combat to get that extra time. Also, your combat tactics
should be aimed at quick resolution (even at the cost of the pain bar going up) to gain the maximum benefit. Think before you act, but think fast! Finding
the right balance between speed and accuracy is key to success.

DEAD MAN WALKING

Death is inevitable, the question is how long can you keep going? Stay alive as long as possible in
this fast paced deathmatch. When you start playing
Dead Man Walking the map has a single enemy, and as time progresses more and more enemies are spawned into the map. When the
enemies die, they get resurrected after a five-second delay. The longer you stay alive, the better your score. Taking out enemies gives the
player an extra two seconds per kill. Like New York Minute, Dead Man Walking mode is unlocked once you've completed the game once.
In Dead Man Walking, you want to pace yourself. Collect weapons and painkillers from difficult spots in the beginning so that
when the going gets hectic you'll have something to rely on. Keep moving and use Bullet Time to the fullest. To succeed in this mode, you'll need to
use your wits as well as your reflexes.
