MAVIS GALLANT (1922-2014) was an acclaimed and award-winning Canadian writer who spent much of her life and career living in France. Her short stories exhibit an intricate simplicity and spare complexity that many critics have likened to Henry James and Anton Chekhov. She won the Governor General's Award for English-language fiction in 1981.
