Four of John Masters' novels The Deceivers, Night Runners of Bengal, The Lotus and the Wing and Bhowani Junction were adapted for an 18-part radio dramatisation by BBC Radio 4. It follows the saga of the Savage family from 1825 to 1946

The Deceivers is the first in the Masters India series and is set in the year 1825.

The Deceivers, a 1952 novel, on the Thuggee movement in India during British Empire rule. An English officer goes undercover to root out the ritual murders of Thuggee. Thuggee is the term for a particular format for the murder and robbery of travellers in History of India. The modern word thug" derives from this term.
