Penelope Keith and June Brown are an unlikely couple of fugitives in this made-for-TV comedy.







SYNOPSIS

Penelope Keith is Margery, recently widowed and a stalwart of her local Neighbourhood Watch. The primly conducted meeting of the Watch committee gets off to a fine start with some digs in the direction of Jonathan Aitken and "poor, poor Jeffrey Archer", both politicians banged up at her Majesty's pleasure when the piece was made.



So to the next drawcard, the adored June Brown, who plays chain-smoking gossip Dot Cotton in Eastenders and here becomes Gladys, the lazy and obnoxious cleaning lady ("Mind if I have fag?") whom Margery hasn't the heart to sack.



The two women are an odd couple with (they think) little in common, until an intruder enters Margery's house and she coshes him (from behind) with her Waterford crystal vase. Believing that Margery has killed him, they must now go on the run, as fugitives.



Some nice cameos here - Peter Vaughan as Gladys's husband, Troy, and Roger Lloyd-Pack (The Vicar of Dibley) as Detective Inspector Woolley.
