Description

Makám began as Zoltan Krulik (guitar), composer, band leader, Endre Juhász (oboe), László Bencze (bass), Peter Szalai (tabla) had played together Attila Szilagyi (guitar), and kept this lineup for 1975-1980.

In 1985, Peter Szalai undertook a study of Indian Studies/ Balazs Thurnay was percussionist; and after Szalai rejoined, the marimba and kaval became his main instruments. There was also important role for improvisation - a variety of cultural influences mingled with contemporary music elements. To standard European instruments - oboe, guitar, double bass - were added North Indian classical percussion such as the tabla, Bulgaria wind and string instruments such as kaval and gadulka, and African marimba and udu...

Between 2003 and 2006, Szilvia Bognar was Makám's permanent singer. The international world music trade press also took notice of their album, Makamba. In 2006 the band evolved further, with Olga Horvath (violin), David Eredics (clarinet, kaval, saxophone, flute), Attila Boros (bass), and Keönch Laszlo (drums, udu, cajon, derbuka xylophone).

Please seed, if you enjoy. And give this album a thumbs-up, if that's the case, too. Knowing others like this music will lead me to continue uploading more Hungarian ethno-folk in the days and weeks to come.
