M.R. James' Whistle And I'll Come To You (1968).avi

This is the one that started it all, that inspired the later 'Ghost Stories at Christmas' broadcast on the BBC in the seventies. This one, directed by Jonathan Miller in 1968, is epic in its portrayal of one man's decline through his intellectual pride. It is, by way of its intense sounds and images (the editing and sound are impeccable esp. in the dream sequences) juxtaposed against the backdrop of an ordinary coastal walk, something of a marvel to watch and listen to. The original story by M.R. James is quite excellent too, and Miller has done a sterling job of transposing this onto celluloid. One of the finest short films I have been priveliged to see. Watch it alone in the dark if you dare !
