For those who got the general error: disconnect from internet, start your lumion, when everything has loaded (your scene), reconnect to the internet and it should be fine.
If you then get an import error (lumion crashes when you try to load a .dae file), do the following (for sketchup only!):\n
save your .skp file as a sketchup 7 file (also .skp).\n
Exit sketchup, download and install sketchup 7.\n
Open sketchup 7, and open your sketchup 7 .skp file. In this version, export as .dae file.\n
Then, with your internet disconnected, start lumion. Choose a scene and wait for this is loaded. Reconnect to the internet, select import model and select your newly made .dae file (the one created with sketchup 7). This time Lumion got very slow, but eventually loaded the file without crashing, so have patience here!\n
For those trying to import other file types, or from other programs, I cannot help you. From the lumion forum I found there were some bugs in this version. I can only say you'll have to wait for the latest version to be cracked (4.0).

The first time I used it it worked perfectly. Everything worked fine, didn't get a general error and I could use all the plugins.
This way I know my pc can run on it.
After I closed the program and restarted it another time, I got a general error and had to hit retry to get the program to work. This time, when I tried to import a model it crashes.
I have no idea why this is happening.
I'm going to try this dude's suggestion:
