Many of Armstrong's recordings with the All-Stars relied on a commercial repertoire of show tunes and pop standards, but NEW ORLEANS NIGHTS is a preferable alternative. In creating a through-line to his stylistic origins, Armstrong is able to recapture some of the vitality of his early ensembles. The fun, collective improvising from the All-Stars on these jazz gems makes revisiting the past a fine thing indeed.



NEW ORLEANS NIGHTS was originally released in 1950, and finds the Louis Armstrong All-Stars turning back the clock to the 1920s when Satch's hot jazz was still the secret of the Big Easy.
